Language Arts: Our Living Museum was PERFECT. We had the chance to speak with almost everyone in the class and hear snippets of all biographies. How fun!

Language Arts: Last day in class to edit and revise biographies as they are due tomorrow. Please make sure that if your send it to me electronically that you include your name or it will not be printed. Also, tomorrow, how will YOU make your biography come alive?

Reading: Read informational articles and created text driven questions

Social Studies: Continued our work on monarchy, oligarchy, tyranny, and democracy.

Language Arts: Worked with writing partners to edit while using the informational writing rubric. Biographies are due Thursday 1/28 as well as making your person of study come alive!!!! (See yesterday's blog for more details)

Reading: Homework: Informational articles with a close read, questions answered and a summary due 1/28, reading fluency due 2/4 and Latin quiz 2/1.

Social Studies: Looked at the ways that democracy came into power in Ancient Greece. Students are co-creating visuals to share their learned information with the class tomorrow.

If you did not yet complete your student goal sheet for 2nd semester, it is due tomorrow.

Language Arts: Looked at ways to conclude our biographies (see above poster). The next two class days will be used for editing and revising. Final biographies are due on Thursday, January 28th AS WELL AS making your biography come alive! A living museum will take place in the classroom on Thursday. How can you make your person come alive? A prop? A costume? A style of speaking? Be creative.

Language:
Worked on our second body paragraph- please finish this for homework is you are not done. It can be tricky to make informational writing interesting and not boring. In class, we discussed strategies to make our writing more interesting. These strategies need to be used and during the revising and editing process we will look for these chosen strategies. 

Reading:
Latin Quiz. Next one is 1/25 & fluency read is 1/21.

Language Arts: Our classes co-wrote a childhood body paragraph using, "How to make informational writing interesting" strategies. Homework- Write first body paragraph (childhood)- due 1/19/16.

Reading: Took part in literature discussion groups based on nonfiction articles. Homework- Latin Quiz- 1/19/16 & Fluency Quiz on 1/21/16.

Social Studies: Gallery walk for our Mummy Project. Homework: Mummy project packet due 1/19/16.

** As an aside, both homerooms came together to chat regarding what it looks like to be a 6th grade learner while at school. Check in with your child to reference this conversation. Have a great 3 day weekend **

Today was different insofar as our schedule. We took time in the morning to do a thorough binder check & clean out. With that being said, there are a fair number of kids that need a new homework folder for their binder there are a lot that are ripped. Our 8th graders performed Music Man for the 6th grade community and it was delightful.

Language Arts: Continued to take notes and organizing our thinking around subtopics for our biographies. Homework- please take some time this weekend to make sure that you have a STRONG start on reading/note-taking. The books need to be completed by Tuesday, Jan 12th. Also, start thinking about how you can come to school and bring your character to life. Once our biographies are due, we will have a share day when we want to see the personalities of our persons of study (clothing, props, etc....). I anticipate the due date to be the week of Jan 25th! 

Reading: Read and responded to a fiction story, The New Kid.

S.S.- Completed brochure presentations and watched a video on the Giza Pyramid.

Language Arts: Working on reading our biographies with a purpose.  We co-created questions one might want to know about any person and then put those into subtopics. Throughout the process of reading their biography, students now have subtopics that will shape their notetaking. See visuals above.
